Beach Day!

Beach Day! Inhibitions? Not a one. Insecurities? Not us! Self confident? Oh Yeah!

What a wonderful way to celebrate our year of learning together. We started off with the Beach Boys and some beach day drawings in our journals . . . and a lot of excited running around in our bathing suits! Then we had morning meeting. We played a game where we packed a suitcase for the beach and we had to remember what everyone put in!

We had some fun with Mr. Santulli in music, then we had stations in our room. We made sand castles, star fish and explored some of the stuff Mrs. Kolotos has collected from beaches over the years. Then we had stations in Mrs. Hogan’s classroom! We made jelly fish and sea gulls and played in the water.

Since it was raining and we couldn’t go out we had some indoor fun. We played a Beach Game. Ahhhhhhhhhh, Beach Day!!

The game was a pretend trip to the beach. We got our packed suitcases from this morning, then we got in the car to go to the beach. Mrs. Kolotos was the mom, we were the kids.  We had to stop a few times for bathroom breaks, and a picnic, then we finally got there, We unpacked our stuff and started out across the beach. Owww! Sand was too hot, we had to scream and run back. That happened a couple of times, then we finally got our towels out and headed to the water. Ewww! Too cold! We had to scream and run back to our towels. That happened a couple of times then we finally got used to it. Everyone got in and we were having a great time, when, ahhhhhhh!!! SHARK!!!! And we all had to scream and run out! Thank goodness it was just a dolphin and we could go back in the water! Anything that involves screaming and running multiple times is sooooo much fun!! (For us at least, we’re not sure what the other classes thought about it, but Mrs. Kolotos said not to worry!)

We finished our day by getting to choose a beach treasure from Mrs. Kolotos’s collection. Beach day was awesome.   —–   When is Field Day???

Sneads Farm in the Spring

We had such a blast revisiting Sneads farm. We noticed quite a few changes. There were still Christmas trees, but there was asparagus too. We saw apple trees and some freshly planted fields of strawberries. We saw llama, horses, goats and sheep. The goats were amazing running up and down a huge ramp just to impress us! Of course we also played! There are so many fun things to do! We really loved those earth slides, we could have done that all day. The zip lines were fun, and the swings, and the tee pee, and the music wall, and the dogs and the tree ladder and the creek and the… and the… Well, there was too much fun to remember, and just enough to tire us out! If only we could go every week!

Egg Day

We had fun on Egg Day! First we talked about how to make it fun for everyone. We decided we would not tell if we happened to find someone else’s egg. And we understood we could only take the eggs that had our name on them. There were six. After we had our plan, we went out to hunt the eggs Mrs. Kolotos had hidden on the playground. When everyone had found their six, we went back in. Then we took turns. Half the class hid the eggs in our classroom for the other half. Then we switched. It was as much fun to hide them as to hunt them! Finally, we got to open them. They were taped closed, so we had to work really hard to get into them. But boy was it worth it!

Songkran

Yesterday we had so much fun celebrating Songkran! Zeddock’s Papa came in and taught us all about the Thai New Year celebration. We learned that it is also called a water festival because many of the traditions involve water to cleanse the past and prepare afresh for the new year. We learned that young Thai children wish their teachers and other respected adults “Happy New Year,” “สุขสันต์วันสงกรานต์ sùk wan sŏng-graan.” by pouring water and flower petals over their hands. We learned that people get wet (which is nice because it is hot in Thailand) a lot during this celebration! Mrs. Kolotos surprised us all on the playground with a lot of water spraying! We also got to try some authentic Thai snacks. We loved some and didn’t care for others, but we got to see, smell and taste some new things! It is so wonderful to learn about traditions and celebrations in the rest of the world.

Occupation Visitors

We really enjoyed all the visitors that came to speak with us about their jobs.

We learned about a lot of different health care jobs from Ellyana’s mom, Callie’s mom and Robbie’s mom. We learned about lawyers and courts from Jack’s mom and we learned a little about the International Monetary Fund from Zeddock’s Papa. Jack’s dad let us get inside of one his brand new big rigs and Coco’s dad, a musician and DJ, gave us a fun dance party. Jillian’s mom told us about being a teacher at a college. Dr. Butterworth, an FA graduate, sent some of his staff to tell us about working in a dentists office, and of course we loved our visit from the Sheriff’s Office!

It was so much fun learning about all the different jobs out there. Thank you to all of the parents who participated in the excitement!

100 Day Celebration

We celebrated our 100th day of school! Bella wore an outfit with 100 polka dots, Callie came dressed like a 100 year old lady, and Mrs. Kolotos wore a shirt with 100 numbers. We did a lot of counting! We counted to 100 by 1’s and by 10’s. We went to the lab and made some strips of paper with 10 things on them. Then we came back to our room and made some more. We made 10 strips all together and then we made a hat to put them on. We also made 100 day necklaces. We made 10 piles of 10 fruit loops and then we put all 100 on a necklace. We also had a 100 day snack that looked like 100! We got to wear the crazy 100 day hats and our necklaces home. We can’t believe the school year is more than half over. 100 days just flew by!

Our Valentine Party

Our valentine party was perfect. The party snacks were wonderful, just like always. We enjoyed everything and we got a giggle out of the jello monsters. After our snacks, we created some valentine bunnies made out of hearts to decorate our hall. We tested our powers of concentration as we played a heart matching game with Clemente’s daddy. And, we practiced kindness as we created Valentine cards for people at FA that don’t have classes of their own. Later, we took turns passing out our valentines from home. When we were all done, we had so many Valentines our bags were overflowing. It was a Happy Valentines Day.

Mailing Our Valentines

We had a lovely day for a walk to the mailbox! Beforehand, we visited Ms. Redding’s office and ran our Valentine envelopes through the postage machine. We talked about how mail moves around and all of the people involved. Then on Thursday we walked to the nearest mail box and dropped them in one by one. Now we just have to wait for them to be delivered to the people we love!

Trucking Fun for JK!

What a fun morning we had! Jack’s dad came and told us a little about our community helpers that get “stuff” to us. Big rig truck drivers! His granddad came too, to help get a big rig on campus for us to see! We saw a few of the things they transport. We learned a little about the trucks. Wow do they have a lot of wheels! Then we learned about the cab of the trucks. They are so cool. Did you know some of them have beds in them? And refrigerators and TVs and closets and oh my! The best part of all … we got to get inside of a brand new big rig! We got to hold the steering wheel, sit on the bed, and hide in the closet! How fun!
