Dear Third-Grade Families,

Can you believe that this week is our last week of classes this year? I am so proud of the work that you have done to continue to practice Spanish at home! I hope you have enjoyed the videos and various practice activities. This week we will finish our unit on nature by doing a scavenger hunt outdoors and recording a final video project of you exploring nature.

I’m also looking forward to “seeing” you at the super-fun End-of-the-Year Events!! Please know that I miss you and that I hope you have a wonderful summer break!!

¡Adiós!

-Maestra Lontor

Session 1

  • Now it’s your turn to go on a scavenger hunt! Print or copy this sheet on a separate piece of paper. Read it with your special helper and make sure you understand what it says. Then, go outdoors and find the things for each square. When you find one, place it in the proper square. When you are done finding all the items, take a picture of your sheet with all the things you found and share it with me!
  • Sing the “Adiós” song to finish the lesson.

Session 2

  • Use the following documents for reference: la naturaleza 1 , la naturaleza 2los sentidos
  • Play with the following flashcards and interactive games to review the vocabulary studied so far.
  • Now you will make your own nature exploration video as your final project! Print this sheet or copy the text and the drawings on a separate peace of paper. Go outside and fill it in in Spanish. This sheet will be your cheat sheet for your video. Then, practice reading your sentences and have a helper record you while you show at least one thing you see, one thing you hear, one thing you touch, and one thing you smell.
  • Sing the “Adiós” song to finish the lesson.

Dear Third-Grade Families,

Wasn’t it fun to learn about some of the beautiful things you can find outside in nature? This week we will continue our outdoor exploration and watch another video made by second-graders last year about pollination.

I hope you enjoy it!

-Maestra Lontor

Session 1

  • Practice the new vocabulary by playing with flashcards and interactive fun games on the following website. Make sure your speakers are on  so you can hear the pronunciation of the words. When you feel confident with some vocabulary, send me a video of yourself practicing your favorite game!
  • Sing the “Adiós” song to finish the lesson.

Session Two

  • Use the following documents for reference: la naturaleza, los sentidos
  • Watch this video made by Mrs. Rosnick’s second graders last year where they act out a story about pollination. You will see two seeds who are sad because they need water. When it rains, out of the seeds two flowers are born, but they are sad too! Watch and find out why!

  • Using this document as a model,  divide a piece of paper and copy the sentences. On the left side, draw the problem of the story you just watched, on the right side draw the happy ending. Then label the characters and elements you illustrated.  Take a picture of it and share it with me!
  • Sing the “Adiós” song to finish the lesson.

Dear Third-Grade Families,

I hope you all had a restful weekend and feel refreshed to start a new week!

This week, we will continue to study farm animals. This time, we will learn how to ask about what sound an animal makes (“¿Cómo HACE el animal?”) and learn about how some of these sounds are written and how they sound different in English. For example, did you know that the dog says “GUAU”, not “WOOF”!

Enjoy!

-Maestra Lontor

  • Sing the “Hola” song to begin the lesson.
  • Use the following document for reference: What sound do the animals make?
  • Watch this video of a story about a chick in the farm who has a little accident!

  • Open this super-funny video and dance and sing along to “El Pollito Pio”!  Here are the lyrics to help you sing along .You can watch it once at normal playback speed and then slow it down so that it is easier to understand by clicking on the “settings” button (which looks like a gear), and choosing “.75 speed.”

  • Complete the following worksheet about farm animal sounds. If you can’t print it, copy it and complete it on a piece of paper. Send me a picture!
  • Sing the “Adiós” song to finish the lesson.

Session Two

  • Open this Slide Show presentation and use the images and the text in it to play the guessing game “Adivina” with a family member. Record a video and share it with me!

Dear Third-Grade Families,

¡Hola! I hope that you are all well and that your child is enjoying the videos and activities. Thank you very much for the videos and photos that were shared! I am so impressed by the work students are doing! Bravo!

This week, students will continue to study wild animals. This time, we will focus on describing them. (Their size, body parts, what they can do, what they eat, etc.) Next week will be our Spring Break, so there will not be any Spanish lessons.

I would really appreciate it if you could give me some feedback about Spanish class so far. Do you think the lessons and activities are an appropriate length and level? Do you enjoy having two lessons per week, or would it be more feasible to do one? Are there any activities you would like to do? I will spend some time planning over the break and will definitely take into consideration any and all feedback that I get from families.

¡Muchas gracias!

-Maestra Lontor
