My Endangered Species Project

In Mrs.Sims class we did a endangered species project. My endangered species was a giraffe. The giraffe is a mammal.  It is a mammal because it is warm blooded, has fur and a backbone, drinks its mother milk and gives birth to live young.  The giraffe is yellow with brown spots.  It is 15-20 tall which is twice the height of LeBron James.  An adult giraffe weight 1,750-2,800 lbs.

Giraffes lives in Eastern Africa in open woodlands and grasslands.  They do not migrate for food or for warmth.  Giraffes travel in groups for safety.  They give birth every two years to on only one calf at a time.  The giraffe lives 25 years in a the wild and 28 or more years in the captivity.  They eat leaves and twigs.  Its predator is the lion.  The giraffe can go weeks without water.  It’s camouflage helps it hide from predators.  Its long necks help it grab its food from high branches and its long, strong tongue helps it rips the leaves and twigs down.

The giraffe is vulnerable. The giraffe is vulnerable because of habitat loss and hunting. They are hunting giraffes for their skin. Habitat loss is when people destroy an animals home. The number of the giraffe is declining because of the bad things people do to hurt giraffes. Conservation means something that helps an animal survive in the wild. There are 100,000 giraffes left on earth. There are things called reserves being established to help protect the giraffes so their populations will increase.  There are also strict laws so they will not be hunted.

Fun facts – their tongues are purple and are 18 inches long.  They watch for danger from up high and they have excellent eye sight.

R: I chose this blog because I enjoyed learning how to make powerpoints. I loved learning about the giraffe and using different materials to find information.

Last week was Ancient Rome day.  First we were wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a fake iPhone. We were tourists. We saw the Aqueducts-a system that carried water. After that we were Romes. The day before Rome Day we made shields.  We made a tortoise formation and it was fun because the teachers threw papers at us.  We wore togas and ate roman food like olive and bread.  It was delicious.  My favorite part was the food.

R: I chose this blog because Ancient Rome Day was really fun.  I really when laid on the ground on our left side eating grapes and olive oil.

In science we are studying simple machines.  A simple machine is something that makes work easier. One experiment we did was with a lever. The arm was on the fulcrum. first the fulcrum was in the middle of the lever then it was on the side.

R: I chose this blog because when I told other people about it they can do it too. The experiments were fun.
