Our Simple Machine: A Catapult

Today we had a project to do. We had to make a catapult out of ,

  • Large Tongue Depressor
  • Tape
  • Water Bottle
  • Dixie Cup

It was a hard project but of course we did it! This took me three times to get it to work properly. The first trial it worked, just didn’t go far, the second trial the ping pong ball would not go out of the Dixie cup, my third trial worked but didn’t make it off the grid so I didn’t go into the showdown. The showdown was just testing your catapult and taping the mark of where the ping pong ball hit and writing your name on the tape.

Rules:

  1.  Once the ping pong ball bounced that was where it’s mark was
  2. We could only use our materials to make our catapult
  3. You are aloud to rip your materials but you are not aloud to open the water bottle

I loved this unit because we always did fun experiments!

Virginia Beach (But Not So Much Of The Beach Part)

I had the best vacation ever literally and not figuratively! First of all it was just my mother and me no Allie, no Andy, no father, just my mother and me. Where did we go? Well if you didn’t get the memo from the title we wen’t to Virginia Beach! For breakfast we had waffles and orange juice with syrup drizzled on the top, my favorite food there was the waffles because I made them by myself, but the batter was already made you just put it in the pan. My favorite part of breakfast there was making one of the workers smile she was laughing because I had a lot of modest humor.(as in it was appropriate). We signed up for this thing where it gives you an upgrade to a suite so when we got in there I said “Wow so where is the suite?” Apparently a suite is just entrance room with a couch and T.V , but it was still pretty cool because we got to walk out on a balcony to a oceanfront view! The pool, the pool, how do I say this the pool was awesome mentally and physically! It had lights shining into the pool and it was just us in the pool! I would change the smell, it smelt like seven bottles of fertilizer had just been sprayed everywhere it was terrifying in it’s own weird way. The one thing I wouldn’t change is making people smile, actually make it two making people smile and going there. Thank you for tuning into story time with Elizabeth. That’s a wrap.

Our Chariot Challenge!

Today we had to do a “Chariot Challenge”  We had a couple of choices, yogurt container or plastic cup, popsicle stick or no popsicle stick? Rubber bands or no rubber bands? Skewer or no skewer?  We had a lot of choices to make so here is everything I used and what I used the item for!

  • Yogurt cup: Inside of chariot.
  • Skewer: To go in the wheels.
  • Bottle caps: The wheels.
  • Popsicle sticks: Push pulley system/decoration for horse
  • Rubber bands: Reigns for horse.

We had to go back and forth to make this project work, and had to make decisions like if we wanted to use hot glue or not (and to be honest most of us did!) A lot of us drew what our chariot was going to look like and we ended up having something that looked like that but with a lot of stuff added on. This was the process of trials. Trial one was our original chariot, trial two was what it ended up like next, and so on and so on.

What I predicted that was going to be difficult was getting the wheels to move the chariot, no one got it to move. How I was approaching this challenge was that I would work hard, have patience, and try again. One of my ideas was for me to have a stick for me to pull.

In the end it did not fall apart.

I loved this challenge!

Hunt v.s Beauty

A long time ago on Mount Olympus (The home of the gods) Aphrodite had used Artemis’ sword to cut off stray hairs, and Artemis had used Aphrodite’s make up supplies to make colorful targets to shoot  at. Artemis found out as well as Aphrodite, they both came to each other, they’re was nothing but crickets for a second or two. All of a sudden all you could hear is “You took my make up!” “Well you took my sword and left hair all over it!” “Well you got dirt all over my make up!” “Well now my sword looks like a cat!” “Well at least I know how to use the make up!” So they went to war, and they tied they couldn’t decide who won so they fought over that. Finally they wen’t to ask Athena so they wen’t to the Parthenon! They got Athena’s advice and she said “I didn’t see the fight and since it was a tie you can try not to take each others stuff anymore” They were not satisfied so Athena made a deal with them “Okay, okay Aphrodite can have a golden chariot for the rest of your life, and Artemis can have new hunting supplies that will never break” so they did but the next day, “Aphrodite why are you using my arrow as a hair piece!?”  “Well why are you using my hair curlers as something to go in your sling shot?!” And you thought it was going to be peaceful didn’t you? The end!

R: I like this blog because I used a lot of humorous and witty commentary in this fiction! I like writing fiction because I have a more reliable structure. Fiction lets my mind explore!

My Favorite God or Goddess

In third grade we started to learn, read, and talk about Gods and Goddess. It was a very interesting topic to learn about and I am very sad we are about to move on. I want to tell you about my favorite Goddess. Her name is Athena, Athena is the God of wisdom and war. I’ll start from the beginning, this may sound weird but Athena was not born she popped out of Zeus’ head. You may be thinking “Well that’s it i’m out of here.” Well I may be able to change your mind about that. Athena had a building called the Parthenon that was dedicated to her, the Parthenon had a big statue of Athena in the building. The Parthenon is still standing but is not looking it’s best. The Parthenon is between demolished and needs to be rebuilt. Anyway I think Athena is a good God, Actually let me rephrase that I think Athena is a great, wonderful, and beautiful (even thought she is a God of war and wisdom)  God.

Our Matter Project!

In class on Friday we did the most fun project we had done all week! We had came into the classroom from art to see a clear cup with a scoop of ice cream in the see-through cup. We sat down in our seats and we saw a pixie cup on our desk too, so we all looked in to see root beer! We all were very surprised (except for David he had been told about it.) If you did not know root beer and ice cream make a root beer float. A solid and a liquid make a gas. On the count of three we all poured the root beer into the ice cream. We ate the ice cream with a spoon most people drank the liquid part with the spoon, but I just drank from the clear cup. This science experiment was very fun and tasty! Bye!

Juan Ponce De Leon

We learned about European explorers and I chose to talk about Juan Ponce De Leon. He landed in St. Augustine, Florida. He was trying to find riches or land for Spain. Juan Ponce De Leon was looking for a mystical land because he believed that in the”very mystical land” lay the “Fountain Of Youth” now of course this was more of a myth than mystical. (Ha) Juan Ponce De Leon’s sponser was Spain. Ponce De Leon was the first European to land in Florida mainly St. Augustine. He claimed land for Spain only. There were three more explorers we learned about they were, Christopher Columbus, Christopher Newport, and Jaques Cartier. But I liked Juan Ponce De Leon. I hope you learned a bit more about this European explorer, Bye!

What Peace Means To Me

Peace is being calm and spreading  joy everywhere you go. Peace is giving someone a helping hand when you know they need it. Peace is trying your best even when you don’t know the answer. Peace is something you know that  you should always try to do. But being peaceful is something that you are born to be, it’s not something that you pick up over the years it’s something that we all should have in us. We need to be able to understand peace, understanding each other using peace, being calm when we are talking. Peace can be looked at in different ways but only one can see peace clearly. We may be born to be peaceful but we cannot understand peace from the start we have to understand others before we understand peace. We have to make a mistake, even if it is a tiny one before we can understand peace. That my friends is, What Peace Means To Me.

R: I like this blog because peace is something we don’t understand but we try to though. This blog helps people to understand the meaning of peace. This blog was close to becoming a tearjerker. Peace is the only thing we need to keep the world going round.

My Crazy Summer!

During the summer I  was going to go to New York but we had a change of plans, without choosing of course. The story is we were going to a family reunion in New York and we were stopping by to use the bathroom (in New York) and of course, we had to stop by a creepy rundown building and my sister and we used it and we were walking back to the motor home and I saw oil we got back in and my parents told us we broke down we finally got to a Walmart and we broke down again we had to get a taxi to drive us back to a train station to go back to home it was a fifteen hour ride to get back home or something like that. When we were finding a seat on the train it was pretty scary because we had to go across something that would connect the train together and it was bumping up and down side to side. It scared me a lot did I forget to mention that I was leading my entire family (except for my Dad) so I had to hold my suitcase, walk across the board to connect the train, and press the button to open the door. It scared me a lot but at last the train finally made it to our stop but we had a dilemma, we couldn’t get a taxi so luckily my sister’s great friend, Camille, and her Dad of course, came to pick us up from the train. So that was probably the most crazy Summer in my entire life!

Globe Project!

A couple day ago we did a really fun geography project! It was a balloon globe! We used balloons for the globes base. (Thanks to my teachers for blowing them up) Then we cut and colored continents. We used the sharpie to draw the equator line and name the oceans. We made the North pole and South pole. We even sang a song on Friday for our share day. It was a really fun project. And I’m glad we did it! It was very exciting and I would recommend it for everyone in any grade, it doesn’t matter if  you know the globe, it will always be a really fun project to review! That’s it! Keep Calm And Falcon On, Bye!
