Songkran

Yesterday we had so much fun celebrating Songkran! Zeddock’s Papa came in and taught us all about the Thai New Year celebration. We learned that it is also called a water festival because many of the traditions involve water to cleanse the past and prepare afresh for the new year. We learned that young Thai children wish their teachers and other respected adults “Happy New Year,” “สุขสันต์วันสงกรานต์ sùk wan sŏng-graan.” by pouring water and flower petals over their hands. We learned that people get wet (which is nice because it is hot in Thailand) a lot during this celebration! Mrs. Kolotos surprised us all on the playground with a lot of water spraying! We also got to try some authentic Thai snacks. We loved some and didn’t care for others, but we got to see, smell and taste some new things! It is so wonderful to learn about traditions and celebrations in the rest of the world.
