Santa Lucia

During the month of December, we learn all about holiday traditions around the world. Santa Lucia is a tradition that is celebrated  in Sweden on December 13. The children in a family get dressed up. The oldest girl is Santa Lucia. She wears a crown that looks like a wreath with four candles in it, and a white dress with a red sash. The boys are star boys, and the youngest boy dresses in red like Santa Claus. The children serve the parents breakfast in bed, including cookies and special bread. For our celebration at school, we went to each classroom and sang a special song about Santa Lucia. Then we gave them cookies. We got to eat the extra ones at lunch. Mathieu and Anaïs got dressed up and joined us in the celebration!

Do you have any special traditions that are celebrated during this time of year?
