Opening Night for the national juried paper Pulp Show

Who: Your family to celebrate the 4th and 5th grade artists from FA

Indeed, paper deserves our respect. This February 6th 2015, LibertyTown presents a show all about paper- paper that embraces the paper’s character. Paintings, drawings, and photographs of paper. Altered books…. Paper sculptures….words written on paper… paper clay…..and celebrate paper in ways we’ve never thought of.

As the coordinator of the Fredericksburg Academy Visiting Artist Program, I will set up a large display of 4th and 5th graders’ bird sculptures at 3pm that day for one day only between 5-9pm, then pack up the birds for their return to FA.

This is a great opportunity to mingle with local and national artists- and get a photo of your child in the gallery with his or her featured piece.

No RSVP needed- I look forward to sharing with you!

Lower School Art Students Experience an Artistic Treat-

Hello FAmilies,  Fourth and fifth graders shared a magical afternoon witnessing local visiting artist Ed King’s inception, execution, and completion of two oil paintings! Jack-o-lanterns, both real and drawn in student sketchbooks, appeared in Ed’s first two paintings.   Excited chatter and interest filled the room as Ed painted.  Eager with questions and observations, students discovered many thoughts and actions that an artist must merge in order to create works of art.  Our grand finale: fifth graders observed a noble gargoyle materialize set against a dark sky and full moon, created exclusively for our FA auction. Thank you, Ed, for giving us the gift of experience and an auction project to bid for next March…stop by the LS art room to see this piece in person!

for participating/visiting families at Art First 824 Caroline St.

7-9pm  View illuminated art on Sophia and Charlotte Streets.

September 21 Noon- 5pm View finished works of art, congratulate FA artists!

The weekend is filled with artists and musicians of ALL ages from many different walks of life and corners of the state. We will pave the streets with color once again with cartoons, Renaissance reproductions, portraits, graffiti, and local artist-created inspirations.  As the Artist Chair for the event, my job entails a year-long recruitment: I now have 18 FA students and 3 faculty members adding to the 100+ artists signed up to create “squares” of 4 to 10 feet filled with colorful artwork.  Sponsored this year by the Womens and Girls Fund as a featured artist, I’ll be creating an original work of art featuring twins Bella and Bianca from our second grade classes.

Please consider attending the festival, sponsoring a square ( $100 for a 4 foot), taking photos to share with FA, and/or following us on Facebook/ viacolorifredericksburg.  Our website is www.viacolorifredericksburg.org, and you will notice a huge change this year. Our beneficiary non-profit, The Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation, will receive the funds generated by our sponsors. We are helping kids all over Virginia diagnosed with cancer have a mobile lab for at-home services, avoiding lengthy commutes and exposure to illness in large facilities. What greater chance to make a difference- cheer on your classmate and enjoy a truly unique festival that celebrates the efforts and diversity of many hands! Pictures will follow after the 20th…see you there,

It’s Here… Ninja Turtle Art Room Renovation

Hello FAmily!

The art room has been painted a nice Ninja Turtle green, giving us a fun focus for learning about colors. mood, association, and the science behind vision.  I am the artist chair for Via Colori this year and want to give you the tools you need for your children to participate in this amazing streetpainting festival! They will receive free pastels and a 4 foot square if signed up before Sept 19th, 2014- just go to this link-

http://www.viacolorifredericksburg.org/

Students should be 10 or older unless working with a family. This year, I will pair a local artist up with your children to discuss techniques and subject matter, thus developing a life-long connection with a professional artist from Art First Gallery on Caroline Street.  So far, I have three FA students signed up- I would like to have at least 25 represent our FA community.  Although the festival runs Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st,  you can choose one day or the other to work. It is really fun to revisit at 5pm on Sunday to see all the finished works and be in a group artist photo together!

Thank you so much for this time commitment on your part as parents- I do know that weekends are very busy in September.  now let’s go hit the pavement and color the streets again…….

End of the year visit to SPCA with second graders

Hello all FA families!

The second graders, myself, and Mrs. Lillis delivered our Penny Harvest  total of $142.50 and  100 cans of food  to the Regional SPCA  this morning. We were able to pet three kittens and view hundreds of dogs and cats available for adoption. We experienced the great need that these animals have daily, both in the shelter and a need for safe, permanent homes.  Please consider visiting and supporting this wonderful place and help us make a difference.  Thank you for sending in pennies throughout the year, showing our students that even the smallest acts of kindness can add up to help others.

Fondly,

Mrs. Reynolds
